About The Position

Through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on training and experience as a Field Service Technician Fellow , supporting Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems in mission-critical, operational environments. In this Fellowship, participants will observe and participate in real-world installation support and maintenance documentation activities while gaining exposure to enterprise network operations and sustainment efforts. The Fellow will work alongside experienced GDIT field technicians and customer counterparts while preparing for a successful transition into civilian field service, technical support, or systems sustainment careers. As a Field Service Technician Fellow , you will train under the guidance of senior technical staff to develop practical skills in hardware installation support, troubleshooting, and technical documentation. Throughout the Fellowship, you will gain experience supporting operational systems and learning how maintenance procedures are developed, validated, and executed in accordance with Department of War (DoW) and U.S. Navy standards.

Requirements

  • Associates of Arts/Associates of Science or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of related experience in technical support, installation, or maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to write maintenance procedure writing in accordance with DoW and Navy requirements.
  • Basic familiarity with computer networks and hardware installation.
  • Willingness to learn training techniques that support operational personnel.
  • Active Secret clearance required
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.

  • Exposure to operational systems, troubleshooting, or technical writing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observing and assisting with installation support activities for computer networks and associated hardware.
  • Supporting senior technicians during field operations and maintenance activities.
  • Learning how to develop, review, and update maintenance procedures in accordance with DoW and U.S. Navy requirements.
  • Assisting in the execution of maintenance documentation programs under the direction of experienced technical leads.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support mission objectives.
  • Gaining exposure to troubleshooting techniques and operational problem resolution.
  • Participating in process improvement efforts related to technical documentation and field support activities.
  • Supporting special projects and learning how technical teams drive operational outcomes in complex environments.
