About The Position

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining CNC machinery and automation systems at customer facilities nationwide. This role serves as the company’s technical representative in the field, diagnosing complex equipment issues while supporting customers in maximizing machine uptime and production efficiency. Depending on experience, this role may also function as a senior technical resource, assisting with complex troubleshooting and mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
  • Engineer II: 3–5 years of CNC or industrial automation service experience
  • Senior Engineer: 8+ years of CNC or industrial automation service experience
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
  • CNC machine tools and industrial automation systems
  • Servo systems, PLC controls (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Industrial networking (EtherCAT / Ethernet)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently in demanding field environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Professionalism and accountability in all interactions
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to travel extensively across the United States
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work safely around industrial machinery
  • Comfortable working remotely while maintaining communication with internal teams
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Install and commission CNC machine tools and automation systems at customer facilities
  • Perform machine start-ups, calibration, alignment, and parameter configuration
  • Verify machine accuracy and performance to meet manufacturer specifications
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues
  • Troubleshoot servo systems, I/O modules, PLC controls, and industrial networking systems
  • Interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical documentation
  • Provide professional onsite technical support and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Train customer personnel on machine operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Communicate service findings and recommendations clearly
  • Complete service reports, labor hours, travel logs, and parts usage documentation
  • Record technical findings and corrective actions within company systems
  • Maintain accurate and timely service documentation
  • Coordinate with service coordinators, parts teams, and applications engineers to resolve issues
  • Provide feedback to engineering and product teams on equipment performance
  • Support knowledge sharing and technical development across the service team
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex service issues
  • Provide mentoring and on-the-job training to junior Field Service Engineers
  • Support team development and operational improvements
  • Follow all company safety policies and customer site safety requirements
  • Maintain company equipment, tools, and documentation according to company standards
