About The Position

In support of the Company’s primary and single most important objective, which is TO GET AND KEEP PROFITABLE CUSTOMERS, The Field Service Engineer is a key technical role responsible for overseeing the successful initiation, start-up, commissioning, and maintenance of medium to large-scale industrial water treatment equipment projects. This individual will ensure that all systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the operational requirements of the client and manufacturers. A strong focus on safety, efficiency, and adherence to timelines is essential for the role. The engineer will work closely with project managers, design engineers, and construction teams to coordinate and execute commissioning activities, troubleshoot issues, and provide training and support to operations staff. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and support. Successes of the position are measured via the following key indicators:

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting complex systems and machinery. Water Treatment Equipment considered a plus.
  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding of engineering concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC/HMI programming is preferred; experience with Siemens, Schneider, or ABB is a plus.
  • Experience with industrial networking and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC-UA).
  • The ability to commission and trouble shoot various analyzers used in water treatment,
  • Proficiency in test results, control systems, and project management.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment, and OSHA protocols.
  • Excellent math and technical skills, with the ability to think methodically.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment processes, including filtration, reverse osmosis, and chemical dosing control loops.
  • The ability to conduct I/O checkout and loop tuning to ensure proper system functionality.
  • Time management and multitasking abilities to maintain an overview of multiple project elements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration with diverse teams and clients. Microsoft suite of products knowledge is required.
  • Strong adaptability skills, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adjust to evolving project requirements.
  • Exceptional teamwork capabilities, including collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
  • Proven track record of working well under pressure, demonstrating flexibility in the face of shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to facilitate successful project outcomes.

  • Physical Demands: The job can be physically demanding, requiring climbing ladders, crawling into tight spaces, and handling heavy equipment.
  • You must be able of lift 50 lbs. safely.
  • You must be able to team lift over 50 lbs. safely.
  • Field Service Technicians spend most of their time at construction sites, which can involve both indoor and outdoor work.
  • Field Service Technicians will need to travel to various project locations, sometimes on short notice. Travel requirement: 70-80%
  • Weather Conditions: Work may be conducted outside, so they must be prepared to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations is crucial, and maintaining a safe work environment at all times is a top priority.
  • Irregular Hours: While they may have a regular schedule, Field Service Technicians don’t always adhere to a 9-to-5 routine and must be available for emergency system failures or client issues. Weekend work will be required while working on a site.
  • Customer Interaction: They often serve as the face of the company to clients, providing customer service and technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of project-specific start-up and commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
  • Conduct commissioning coordination meetings with the owner, project management, and contractors.
  • Provide technical support on all projects with a focus on start-up and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, chemical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Technical Tasks: Their responsibilities include installing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex machinery and systems.
  • Ensure the complete design functions as a whole and meets client specifications.
  • Manage client/vendor/subcontractor coordination for the startup of the project.
  • Create written procedures for testing, cleaning, and initial startup of major plant equipment and systems.
  • Provide training programs and materials for process plant equipment.
  • Coordinate and participate in start-up sequence meetings with both client and EPC contractors.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety consciousness, understanding that it is a critical factor in preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of all team members.
  • Maintain awareness of hazards and alertness to danger in all aspects of project start-up and commissioning activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety by setting a good example and encouraging team members to prioritize safety in their daily tasks.
  • Engage actively in safety meetings, report all hazards, and take responsibility for correcting safely any observed hazards.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols, ensuring that all operations comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain a TWIC card in good status.
  • Create, participate and lead company safety improvement initiatives.
  • Write, create and deliver equipment training modules to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of the Aftermarket Parts and Services business strategy and deployment.
