The Field Service Engineer is a remote field-based position with daily travel to our customer locations within the assigned territory. Ideal candidates will reside within a 30-mile radius of where the position is based. Company vehicle provided. 25% overnight travel is possible and a valid driver’s license is required. Summary: The Field Service Engineer for BD Pyxis/Parata Dispensing Devices is accountable for independently providing efficient and effective field service support to all BD customers within a given territory in a timely manner, including, but not limited to service and repair, preventative maintenance, calibration, installations, and limited cross-functional support for Sales and Implementation teams.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in associated field or the equivalent of 3+ years of experience in a technical support role.
  • 24x7 on-call experience in a customer-facing/field service environment
  • Good mechanical, computer, verbal, written, and time management skills, required
  • Computer electronics, Windows OS, network experience, required
  • CompTIA A+ Certification or equivalent experience
  • Medical device or electromechanical device service/repair experience, required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to use standard hand tools to perform in depth disassembly and reassembly of complex subsystems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet BD's auto safety standards.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 70 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to lift 70 lb. objects from the floor to chest level.
  • Hand Powered Tools - Ability to operate powered drills, powered screw drivers, and other powered tools.
  • Manual Tool Manipulation - Ability to turn manual sockets, crescent wrenches, and screw drivers repeatedly over the course of an 8-to-10-hour day.
  • Proficiency with digital multi-meters and voltage/amperage testers.
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks while reaching over the course of an 8–10-hour day.
  • Use of ladders and step stools on a regular basis.
  • May be required to wear a respirator while servicing equipment, thus must be able to pass a fit test and medical evaluation.
  • Daily car travel is required; occasional air travel is possible.

Responsibilities

  • Provides remote and on-site technical support for BD Pyxis/Parata automated dispensing systems located at customer facilities within assigned region and in accordance with our customer support agreements, including DHA and DoD facilities.
  • Responds to, evaluates, and prioritizes work orders; diagnoses, services, and resolves issues regarding proprietary hardware and software system components, maintains ownership of the work order, escalates issues to the Senior FSE and/or Supervisor; logs, tracks, and documents all work order activity, and is capable of fully supporting all products within assigned region.
  • Executes a preventive maintenance program, provides limited cross-functional support for our Sales and Implementation teams, and other support activities as applicable to the role.
  • Leverages skillset and experience to independently troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Provides efficient field services to all BD customers in a timely manner, including but not limited to installations, in-servicing, repair, preventive maintenance, calibration, and sales support.
  • Maintains proper and accurate small parts inventory for the purpose of service and follows approved policies and procedures for inventory controls.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation that details field activity, expenses, time distribution and other information as required.
  • Continues training and self-development to learn the products and applications of the company for success in the role, advances skillsets, and attends management approved seminars and training sessions to advance to the next level.
  • Maintains company assets (car, tools, and inventories) securely and in working order.
  • Possesses and maintains a superior knowledge of corporate and service department procedures and policies, including customer complaint handling and Medical Device Reporting.
  • Able to work independently and also in a team environment, and engages/escalates to team leadership for advanced troubleshooting and resolution of issues as needed.
