Role Overview: A Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing technical support, maintenance, and repair services for various instruments and equipment. Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise , customer service skills, and adaptability . We are searching for our next FSE to join the team; they will primarily cover the North/Central North Carolina area including Durham, Greensboro and Winston-Salem. The ideal candidate will demonstrate s trong work ethics and reliability , bringing a p ositive attitude and a team -oriented mindset. Continuous learning and improvement approaches will be important in this role . Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and understand their needs will be key . Using Innovative thinking to develop solutions for unique challenges and apply a nalytical skills to identify root causes and implement effective fixes will ensure the best outcomes in this role .

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or Technical School equivalent
  • Previous experience in customer service/customer facing roles
  • Proficient in operating powered drills, screwdrivers, and saws.
  • Previous experience in diagnosing and repairing medical devices, electromechanical equipment, or scientific instruments
  • Previous experience in installation, calibration, and testing of instruments.
  • Previous experience T roubleshoot ing and resolv ing technical issues
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and able to meet BD’s auto safety standards.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 30-40 lbs from the floor to chest level
  • A bility to push and pull objects weighing up to 70 lbs
  • A bility to carry a pack weighing up to 30 lb s on the back for up to 1 hour.
  • Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand repeatedly in an 8–10-hour period to assemble and repair instrument suites.
  • Ab ility to climb and lift portable ladders and step stools
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks while reaching over an 8–10-hour day.
  • May be to wear a respirator while servicing equipment, thus must be able to pass a fit test and annual spirometry.
  • Capable of using manual sockets, crescent wrenches, and screwdrivers for extended periods, typically 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • Willing and Ab le to travel up to 50%, including occasional overnight stays based on business needs.
  • Willing and Ab le to drive distances of up to 6 hours within a given day, and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Willing and Able to work f lexible working hours throughout the week, traveling to various customer locations

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in a related field
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electromechanical, and software-based instruments
  • Field Service Engineering and/or Networking/IT System Upgrades experience
  • Experience in a lab or hospital environment
  • Familiarity with ISO, FDA, and company policies
  • Ability to support the sale of service contracts.
  • Experience c ollaborati ng with sales representatives and service team members.
  • Experience p roviding feedback to improve financial performance and generate service revenue.
  • M ilitary experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Responsibilities

  • Installation & Maintenance: Provide support for installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of mechanical, electromechanical, and software-based instruments. Tasks include installation, repair, calibration, cleaning, and testing of instruments.
  • Customer Relations: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, review solutions, discuss needs, and ensure safe operational conditions.
  • Sales Support: Actively support the sale of service contracts, collaborate with sales representatives and service team members on system configurations, upgrades, installations, and moves. Provide feedback to improve financial performance and generate service revenue.
  • Documentation: Complete service administration activities promptly, adhering to ISO, FDA, and BD policies.
