About The Position

Mako Industries is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to support our Global Tech Subsea division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assembling, testing, and repairing PBOF (Pressure Balanced Oil-Filled), MUX cables and other subsea connectivity solutions in our manufacturing shop, as well as supporting field service operations onshore and offshore as needed. This role requires a hands-on technician with experience in cable assembly, terminations, electrical testing, and troubleshooting in a demanding environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in cable assembly, electrical wiring, or fiber optic terminations (subsea experience preferred) as a Field Service Engineer.
  • Ability to work with various cable types, including electrical, fiber optic, and hybrid cables.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting using megohmmeters, TDRs, and high-voltage insulation testers.
  • Familiarity with subsea electrical and fiber optic connectors (e.g., ODI, SEACON, Tronic, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Willingness to travel offshore and work in field conditions as needed (TWIC card and BOSIET preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the oil & gas, subsea, or marine industries.
  • Prior offshore experience with a valid HUET/BOSIET certification.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification for cable and wire harness assembly is a plus.
  • Fiber optic termination and splicing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and fabricate PBOF cables, MUX connectors, and electrical harnesses according to engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform terminations, splicing, overmolding, and potting of subsea cables.
  • Conduct electrical continuity, insulation resistance (IR), and pressure testing on manufactured cables.
  • Assist in maintaining and calibrating tools, equipment, and test fixtures.
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical work instructions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cables, connectors, and subsea equipment at client locations.
  • Assist with mobilization and demobilization of equipment for offshore projects.
  • Work in harsh environments, including shipyards, drilling rigs, and offshore platforms, while adhering to safety and operational procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged or faulty cables in the field as required.
  • Interface with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure work is completed efficiently.
