Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related engineering field.
  • Alternatively: Associate degree or technical certification with 5+ years of relevant semiconductor field service experience.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems in semiconductor or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor process and/or metrology inspection equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; electronics experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor safety, ergonomics, and yield requirements.
  • Basic software troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer-focused mindset.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent time and project management skills; adaptable in dynamic environments.
  • High attention to detail in documentation and diagnostics.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally; must meet visa and site access requirements.
  • Comfortable working in cleanroom environments, including gowning and use of breathing apparatus.
  • Physical capability for manual tasks such as bending, crawling, and working around semiconductor systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support for installation, upgrades, calibration, maintenance, and repair of metrology and inspection tools in compliance with Onto Innovation standards and service agreements.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software issues independently or in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Manage escalations and critical customer situations effectively.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the factory and customers for performance data collection, reliability analysis, and satisfaction tracking.
  • Prepare detailed Field Service Reports (FSRs) documenting tool performance, issue resolution, and installation updates.
  • Deliver feedback to engineering teams on serviceability, reliability, and installation metrics to influence future product development.
  • Support beta programs at customer sites and engineering centers.
  • Provide technical phone support and participate in on-call rotations as required.
