The Brittain Electric team is seeking a best-in-class Field Service Controls Technician willing to roll up their sleeves and exude a passion for the field! A Field Service Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the physical infrastructure of our data center, ensuring a stable, efficient, and reliable environment for critical systems. This includes oversight of HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems, with a focus on commissioning, instrumentation, and BMS operations. A strong understanding of Modbus communication protocol to communicate with various instruments is required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and optimize Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor and control HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems within the data center environment
  • Ensure the effective operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels for data center equipment
  • Assist with the commissioning of new equipment and systems, ensuring proper integration and operation within the data center infrastructure
  • Perform instrumentation calibration, ensuring accurate measurement and control of environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and airflow
  • Utilize knowledge of Modbus communication protocol to interface with various instruments and building management devices, ensuring seamless data exchange and system integration
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues related to BMS, HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal operation
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on all building systems to proactively identify potential issues and maintain the longevity of equipment
  • Maintain detailed logs and reports related to system performance, maintenance activities, and any issues resolved, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards
  • Work closely with other teams, including operations, engineering, and safety, to ensure the data center infrastructure supports overall business goals

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in facilities management, specifically in BMS, HVAC, electrical, or data center environments
  • Strong knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) operations
  • Proficient in HVAC, electrical systems, and lighting controls
  • Experience with commissioning new equipment and systems
  • Basic instrumentation and calibration skills for monitoring temperature, humidity, airflow, and other environmental parameters
  • In-depth knowledge of the Modbus communication protocol for integrating and communicating with various instruments and building systems
  • Relevant certifications in facilities management, HVAC, or BMS (e.g., BMS certification, LEED, or equivalent) are preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues quickly and efficiently
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in monitoring, maintaining, and documenting systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with internal teams and documentation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment
  • Experience in the data center industry or a similar high-demand, 24/7 operational environment
  • Familiarity with data center power systems (UPS, generators, PDUs)
  • Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainable practices
