About The Position

Watercare is seeking a motivated early‑career or graduate Field Service and Calibration Technician. to support the operation, calibration, and reliability of air quality monitoring equipment across New Zealand. This is a hands‑on, field‑based role well suited to someone at the start of their technical career who is keen to build practical experience with advanced air quality instrumentation. You’ll be supported to learn how to calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment on site to ensure accurate, high‑quality monitoring data. Around 60–70% of your time will be spent in the field, with 3–4 overnight stays per month.

Requirements

A practical, hands‑on mindset with strong problem‑solving skills
An interest in air quality monitoring, instrumentation, electronics, or calibration
A relevant qualification (e.g. Electronics, Electrical, Environmental Science, or similar)
Strong attention to detail and good documentation skills
A full NZ driver’s licence and willingness to travel

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in air quality or environmental monitoring is an advantage, but not essential — we’re primarily looking for curiosity, initiative, and a genuine desire to learn and grow in a technical field‑based role.

Responsibilities

Calibrating, verifying, and maintaining air quality monitoring instruments
Diagnosing faults and resolving equipment issues on site wherever possible
Installing and commissioning monitoring equipment and supporting system upgrades
Applying practical problem‑solving and ingenuity in real‑world field environments
Maintaining accurate service and calibration records (ISO 17025 aligned)
Performing data validation
Championing health, safety, and continuous improvement
