About The Position

The Western Region Safety Manager works in conjunction with operational leadership and the safety team to identify oportunities to reduce risk and foster a culture of safety and compliance excellence. This role will also be responsible for training and development of our bulk and liquid chemical team members. Working directly with operational leadership to increase safety and operational excellence by living the Modern Transportation Mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of relevant work experience in safety and risk management
  • CDL license required or will obtain after hire
  • Knowledge of: Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) (e.g., Samsara, Platform Science), Event Recording Devices (e.g., Netradyne – preferred), FMCSA, DOT, HMR, and OSHA regulations
  • 1 year of liquid chemical, HazMat experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with behavior-based safety principles, injury prevention, and vehicle incident mitigation strategies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to create and manage Excel spreadsheets and develop professional PowerPoint presentations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct driver training, including pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle compliance.
  • Perform in-field ride-along to evaluate driving proficiency and safety protocol adherence.
  • Provide coaching to correct unsafe behaviors and reinforce company values and safety standards.
  • Provide HazMat and liquid chemical training
  • Monitor driver and unloader practices to ensure safe and compliant loading/unloading.
  • Periodically review and update procedures to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
  • Perform site and procedural audits to ensure adherence to company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Review fleet documentation for compliance with DOT and CMV requirements.
  • Support and manage the Responsible Care Program, ensuring environmental, health, and safety compliance.
  • Coordinate and conduct ongoing safety and compliance training sessions.
  • Collaborate with the corporate safety team to document training activities in the internal tracking system.
  • Lead safety meetings to communicate updates, policy changes, and key performance metrics.
  • Investigate vehicle incidents, near-misses, and workers' compensation claims in the region.
  • Analyze safety event recordings (e.g., Netradyne) to identify risks and recommend corrective action.
  • Report on all safety concerns and unauthorized activities to the Director of Safety.
  • Train team regarding in-truck and safety technology.
  • Troubleshoot and support truck-based technologies and safety monitoring systems.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and generate periodic reports on safety activities and metrics.
  • Perform other safety and compliance-related duties as assigned.
