This strategic R&D management role leads the Field R&D (FRD) Department, which is integral to the new product development and product life cycle management processes for biorational agriculture products. The FRD team designs and oversees complex global field programs for R&D/new product development and product life cycle management in close collaboration with internal functional groups, including Global Research, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing/Business Management, Manufacturing, and the Project Management Office. This position serves as the primary point of contact for Valent BioSciences' field research and development activities with corporate affiliates and external Contract Research Organizations. As such, it is responsible for overseeing the execution of the global field R&D workplan, including budget management and execution of Technical Service Agreements and Field Research Contracts. The role requires ensuring that R&D Field Programs align with agreed-upon organizational priorities, as identified and justified by Marketing and Business Management, and documented and tracked in the R&D Pipeline. The manager provides leadership in the design, coordination, execution, and interpretation of domestic and international field efficacy and residue experiments and programs. They are responsible for providing efficacy results, interpretation, and summaries to support the commercialization of new products and to support new uses of existing products. Additionally, the role involves developing intellectual property and freedom to operate (FTO) around new products and uses where possible, as well as providing technical support to Regulatory Affairs for domestic and international product registrations, including the development of product use recommendations. Management of external collaboration relationships for field program activities, experimental design, evaluation, and interpretation of scientific results, and communication of results and recommendations to upper management is also a key responsibility. The manager establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements, and implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Furthermore, the role includes managing all personnel-related functions for direct reports, including performance management and personnel development planning.
