About The Position

The Field Project Representative 5 is responsible for a wide range of construction observation, administrative duties, and documentation during the construction phase of projects. Due to the field nature of this position, applicants must have the ability to travel away from their home location for extended periods of time to work on-site at construction projects. The position may also require night shift and/or weekend work as necessary. This position includes, but is not limited to, interpreting contract plans and specifications, observing and inspecting work performed by contractors to evaluate compliance with contract documents, note taking and documentation, preparation of pay requests and record keeping. The person in this position may also assist other Construction Engineering and Inspection staff with responding to requests for information, change orders and other field/construction administrative duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) - Advanced
  • Market Sector Software (AASHTOWare, DocExpress, local agency data management software, Newforma, MS Project/Primavera, Blue Book Rental) - Advanced
  • Advanced understanding of technical fundamentals
  • Fundamental understanding of contracts, risk mitigation, and other risk management principals
  • Team player and team leader with the ability to follow on large or complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of scopes, scheduled, and budgets.
  • Expertly interprets, selects, and employs the following standards with advanced skill: Relationship/order of precedence of Contract Documents, Materials testing and requirements, Quantity and quality tracking, Local agency, state DOT, EJCDC, ACI, MasterSpec, other building codes
  • Frequent direct communications with clients on large/complex projects.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Years of experience required: 10 years
  • Years of experience required with advanced degree: 9 years
  • All certifications required by local jurisdiction (e.g., ODOT Drilled Shaft, Traffic Signals, etc.)
  • Driving is an essential job function or a valid driver’s license is required to support legitimate business purposes
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to create and interpret graphs and understand statistical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting contract plans and specifications
  • Observing and inspecting work performed by contractors to evaluate compliance with contract documents
  • Note taking and documentation
  • Preparation of pay requests and record keeping
  • Assisting other Construction Engineering and Inspection staff with responding to requests for information, change orders and other field/construction administrative duties as needed.
  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for Daily construction reports and project documentation
  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for Submittal reviews and RFI responses
  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for In-service inspection reports
  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for Construction Time Estimates (CTEs)
  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for Change order support documents (force account process)
  • Oversees team operations and the daily workflow of the team
  • Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks
  • Recruits and hires new employees
  • Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff
  • Communicates information from leadership to employees and vice versa
  • Monitors employee productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching
  • Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company’s plans and vision and communicates them to employees
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Decides on reward and promotion based on performance
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy
