About The Position

Field Operations Supervisor II/District Seven/Director of Trans Operations/ District Maintenance/ Brooksville Operations Center This position will be responsible for the oversight and management of our maintenance crews working on the roadways. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication. Requirements

  • Knowledge of department regulations, policies and procedures relating to highway maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Management System (MMS) guidelines and production standards.
  • Skill in determining maintenance work priorities and organizing resources to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret roadway design standards, maintenance rating standards, specifications and plans.
  • Ability to inspect completed maintenance projects to ensure quality products.
  • Ability to supervise others in the completion of routine maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on call” (24-hour duty) when necessary.
  • While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • The incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis perform other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
  • Possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
  • Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Advanced Level within one year and maintain it.
  • The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates
  • This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
  • In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query.
  • To be considered for employment, applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Title 49 CFR Part 391.11.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff.
  • Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in the roadside maintenance program.
  • Assist the Maintenance Field Operations Manager in work need surveys by conducting routine highway maintenance inspections.
  • Select materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization for employees.
  • Train crew members in the proper identification and inspection of defective areas.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction on roadside defects and determine corrective action required.
  • Oversees crews and contracted employees performing maintenance activities.
  • Develops work schedule and assigns routine maintenance activities for the Department of Corrections (DOC) crews.
  • Issues daily work assignments to DOC officers and provides them with the appropriate tools, equipment and materials to complete assignments.
  • Performs field inspections to verify the quantity and quality of work completed.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with Standard Indexes and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) policies and procedures.
  • Verifies FDOT and DOC crew’s production, work time, materials, equipment usage and locations are reported accurately on crew sheets.
  • Performs work need surveys and plans work based on priorities.
  • Submits planned work schedules to the Unit’s Maintenance Management System’s (MMS) Manager.
  • Coordinates with the MMS Manager to plan resources and unit goals for FDOT and DOC crews.
  • Performs minor operational maintenance and ensures that the proper periodic preventative maintenance schedule is performed in a timely manner and that equipment is kept in good working condition by coordinating with the local shop.
  • Ensures that FDOT and DOC crews are following procedures for equipment maintenance and inspections.
