About The Position

Field Operations Supervisor II / District Four / District Maintenance / Ft Laud Maint - Roadway Repair This position will oversee daily field operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. This role supervises field teams, coordinates schedules and resources, and monitors project progress to meet operational goals and deadlines. The supervisor provides guidance, training, and performance feedback to staff while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and company policies. They also collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, and support overall operational performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of department regulations, policies, and procedures relating to highway maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Management System (MMS) guidelines and production standards.
  • Skills in determining maintenance work priorities and organizing resources to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret roadway design standards, maintenance rating standards, specifications and plans.
  • Ability to inspect completed maintenance projects to ensure quality products.
  • Ability to supervise others in the completion of routine maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • A valid Class B CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Instructional Permit is required at time of hire.
  • Obtain a valid Class B CDL with air brakes within 180 days of hire.
  • Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Advanced Level within one year and maintain it.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.
  • Has the authority to effectively recommend the hiring, transferring, suspension, lay off, recalls, promotions, discharges, assignments, rewards, or disciplinary actions for subordinate employees.
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff.
  • Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.
  • Performs field inspections to verify the quantity and quality of work completed.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with Standard Indexes and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) policies and procedures.
  • Verifies FDOT crew production, work time, materials, equipment usage and locations are reported accurately on crew sheets.
  • Performs work need surveys and plans work based priorities.
  • Submits planned work schedules to the Unit’s Maintenance Management System’s (MMS) Manager.
  • Coordinates with the MMS Manager to plan resources and unit goals for FDOT crew.
  • Performs minor operational maintenance and ensures that the proper periodic preventative maintenance schedule is performed in a timely manner and that equipment is kept in good working condition by coordinating with the local shop.
  • Ensures that the FDOT crew is following procedures for equipment maintenance and inspections.
