About The Position

The Field Mechanic at Service Electric Company travels throughout their assigned region and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment/machinery. This role supports field operations by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. Work is performed primarily at job sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working on commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment (bucket trucks) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, braking systems, and diagnostics.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and solve issues.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently with good time management.
  • Ability to conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of SEC, working effectively in a diverse work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles, including pickup trucks, medium/heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerial lift systems, booms, outriggers, and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) services to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • Travel with storm crews, as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Coordinate with operations and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize disruption.
  • Manage parts inventory and communicate parts needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
