About The Position

FiberTel, a fully owned subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc., is a utility construction company specializing in the installation of fiber optics across the Northwest and Western regions, including Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and California. The company plays a crucial role in supporting internet providers by ensuring the continuous construction and installation of fiber optics, which is vital for uninterrupted internet service, especially with the increase in remote work and online schooling. FiberTel is actively seeking an experienced Field Mechanic for its Reno, NV location. This role requires extensive travel to various job sites throughout California to perform diagnostics and repairs on the company's heavy equipment and fleet trucks. The ideal candidate will possess vast industry experience, capable of handling a wide range of repairs including electrical, engine, hydraulic, and welding work on diverse equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, dozers, and plows. A service truck and specialized tools will be provided by the company, but the mechanic is expected to have their own basic tools.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in heavy equipment mechanic work
  • Computer skills including things like word, and excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to manage a schedule and organize time
  • Willing to travel out of state (60%)
  • Experience with heavy diesel repair and maintenance
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical repairs
  • Knowledge of fuel systems; both diesel and gas
  • Ability to perform electrical diagnostics using a scanner
  • Welding Experience
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Diesel Mechanic Certification or equivalent experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ford 6.7 Diesel and GM 6.6 Duramax
  • Safety Inspection certified
  • Management experience
  • Class A CDL

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy equipment
  • Travel to job sites all around California
  • Perform engine repairs and maintenance
  • Perform safety inspections
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair transmission systems
  • Make necessary repairs to hydraulic and air brakes
  • Repair and maintain HVAC systems
  • Make electrical repairs
  • Perform oil changes as needed
  • Maintain a clean work area, tools, and equipment
