About The Position

The Field Mechanic (Heavy Equipment) is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Heavy Civil Construction Equipment. This role involves diagnosing problems and performing mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy civil construction equipment, including bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, front end loaders, yard trucks, forklifts, and company vehicles. The mechanic inspects and documents the condition of equipment for items needing repair or service, replaces or repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment, and rebuilds or fabricates parts. Additionally, the mechanic lubricates moving parts and operates repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications, performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist, drives a pick-up or service truck, and is safety conscious, responding to inquiries promptly and ensuring situations are taken care of correctly. Other related duties may be required or assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair/maintenance/welding in heavy civil construction equipment required.
  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must be able to cut, weld and fabricate.
  • Experience and knowledge of CAT ET diagnostic tool.
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are required.
  • Previous experience reading technical manuals and understanding of schematic diagrams preferred.
