The Construction Management Division resides within the APWA-certified Public Works Department and is responsible for providing services and overseeing the construction activities of all infrastructure projects. This is technical engineering work involving inspection of a wide variety of public works, utilities, and building construction projects. Employees in this class are responsible for inspecting technical road, drainage, marine or utility projects. Duties require detailed knowledge of road, building, bridge, dock and seawall design, and construction, water distribution and backflow prevention, sewer transmission, and related projects and procedures. An incumbent may continue to perform Field Inspector 1 functions for an indefinite time or non-competitively advance to Field Inspector 2 at the discretion of the appointing authority. The position reports to a manager, supervisor or designee and may require some overtime.
