MWH Constructors' Construction Management Services (CMS) group is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Field Inspector to support water infrastructure projects in Northern California. This position will be based at our Martinez, Ca project. As Construction Inspector, the candidate will be responsible for conducting and documenting inspections during the construction of projects including pipelines, pumping plants, power plants, dams, levees, bridges, roads, and aqueducts.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of inspection experience in the construction of water infrastructure projects.
  • Thorough understanding of construction safety, quality control, and general contract management requirements necessary.
  • Equivalent combination of related experience and technical training may be substituted.
  • Valid California Drivers License.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular field safety inspections of active construction areas to verify compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA (29 CFR), contract documents, and Owner safety requirements.
  • Review Contractor Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), IIPPs, JHAs, and related safety submittals for conformance with project requirements.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and regulatory or contract non-compliance; document findings and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Monitor Contractor implementation of corrective measures and verify effectiveness in the field.
  • Support the CM and Owner during Cal/OSHA inspections, audits, or site visits.
  • Participate in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations; review Contractor reports and verify corrective and preventive actions.
  • Attend and participate in pre-construction meetings, safety meetings, and coordination meetings as required.
  • Verify Contractor compliance with required safety training, certifications, PPE usage, and safe work practices.
  • Prepare clear and timely safety inspection reports, logs, photographs, and summary reports for the CM and Owner.
  • Track safety trends, recurring issues, and leading indicators, and provide recommendations for risk reduction.
  • Communicate safety concerns promptly to the CM and Owner and recommend stop-work actions when imminent hazards are observed.
  • Coordinate closely with CM staff to integrate safety oversight into construction planning and sequencing.
  • Serve in an oversight and advisory role without directing Contractor means and methods.
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned by the CM or Owner.
