The City of Oviedo is seeking a dedicated and skilled Field Inspector to perform highly technical inspections of site development construction projects and Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs). This position is essential for ensuring that all projects comply with the City’s engineering standards and land development regulations. The Field Inspector will work under the general direction of the City Engineer and will be required to report for duty outside of normal working hours in response to emergencies, natural disasters, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration. In this role, the Field Inspector will conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, ordinances, rules, regulations, and standards. Inspections will cover various aspects of construction, including potable water, reclaimed water, sewer systems, paving, grading, drainage, sidewalks, and right-of-way development. The inspector will also be responsible for inspecting on-site culverts, control structures, headwalls, pipe tie-ins, mitered end sections, retention ponds, infiltration systems, and stormwater pipes and structures for both residential and commercial projects. The Field Inspector will act as the City Field Inspector on projects performed by both public and private contractors, performing inspections of capital improvement projects and overseeing the development of as-builts, pay requests, specifications, and traffic control to ensure that projects are constructed as designed and approved. This role requires maintaining detailed records of construction progress, collecting and evaluating data for field implementation, and advising contractors on any deviations or errors that require corrective action. The inspector will also engage with the general public, engineers, architects, contractors, developers, and property owners to discuss projects and address any concerns. Additionally, the Field Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that all infrastructure, including storm lines, curbs, sidewalks, and driveways, are properly installed according to the City’s Engineering Standards Manual. The inspector will monitor contractor compliance with safety standards and requirements set by OSHA and FDOT, coordinate pre-construction meetings, and ensure that rights-of-way are restored after project completion. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity of construction projects and ensuring public safety and compliance with city regulations.
