The Floorhand's job is to safely and efficiently provide the manual labor required to operate the equipment on the drilling rig floor. The Floorhand participates in a variety of activities in repairing, maintaining and cleaning the rig equipment. This may include chipping and painting, the physical movement of equipment, the mixing of chemicals and the greasing, oiling and washing of equipment, walls and floors. The Floorhand performs these tasks under the close supervision of the Driller.

  • Safely and efficiently provide manual labor on the drilling rig floor.
  • Participate in repairing, maintaining, and cleaning rig equipment.
  • Chip and paint rig equipment as needed.
  • Physically move equipment as required.
  • Mix chemicals for rig operations.
  • Grease, oil, and wash equipment, walls, and floors.
  • Operate tongs and slips to connect and disconnect drill pipe, tubulars, casing, and drill bits or tools.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on rig equipment.
  • Follow rig up and down procedures, nipple up and down, and care for the B.O.P. system.
  • Monitor and operate the shakers.
  • Assist the Derrickhand within the mud pit, mud pump, and chemical sack rooms.
  • Perform housekeeping activities on the drill floor including pressure washing, chipping, and painting.
  • Assist the Motorhand/Derrickhand with offloading/back loading supplies, equipment, pipe, etc.
  • When trained, relieve the Derrickhand in the derrick.
  • Maintain good housekeeping on the drilling location including rig components, offices, and accommodations.
  • Report incidents, equipment failures, system failures, and abnormalities as per Company procedures.
  • Train and mentor new Floorhands/Floorhand Trainees as assigned to the rig.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Driller, Derrickhand, or Rig Manager.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Able to receive verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protective devices.
  • Successful completion of Floorhand Training at the NDUSA Training Center.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from remote drilling rig locations.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Understand the requirements of the Company Management System including policies, procedures, and expectations.
