About The Position

The field experience specialist is responsible for leading field experiences and overseeing the logistics of field experiences, supporting ambassadors who lead field experience activities, and supporting community and postsecondary partnerships. Working successfully with diverse populations is an essential feature of this position, with enthusiasm for working with the public as important as content knowledge. Poudre Learning Center (PLC) programs are hands-on, project-based, and geared toward helping children and adults develop awareness, appreciation, passion, and stewardship.

Requirements

  • College degree in environmental science, biology, geology, botany, education, sociology, or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge related to natural sciences
  • At least two years of experience working with K-12 youth
  • Valid Colorado Driver's license for off-site programs
  • Current first aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Suites, as well as other job-appropriate software applications.
  • Flexibility and excellent public relations skills.
  • Proficient in business and office procedures.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform all functions of the position.
  • Ability to make and certify math computations accurately and rapidly.
  • Proficient on spreadsheet software (EXCEL/ Google Sheets), desktop publishing, email and Internet, Google Suite, financial management software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to think creatively and identify procedural improvements as needed.
  • Passion for environmental education
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team with minimal supervision
  • Regular in-person attendance is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of Colorado Content Standards
  • Familiarity with Positive Youth Development and/or Youth Participatory Action Research
  • Experience working in non-traditional education settings, particularly environmental education, outdoor education, nature centers, or pre-collegiate programs

Responsibilities

  • Managing logistics for and implementing grant programming.
  • Complete initial contact, planning and emails with teachers to finalize schedules and booklets.
  • Facilitate follow-up emails and surveys.
  • Set up and maintain educational displays and posters at the PLC.
  • Reach out to the community to recruit new members and volunteers to help provide learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate on developing culturally responsive, innovative student activities and family programs based on experiencing the outdoors with the PLC partner school districts.
  • Assist the program specialist in the development and enhancement of the Well Watch program, and PLC field experiences as needed.
  • Work closely with the program specialist to ensure successful PLC experience for teachers, students, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory of field experience materials and first aid kits.
  • Develop and maintain an organizational system for field experience materials.
  • Submit purchase requests to the administrative assistant.
  • Care for ambassador animals (including snakes) through regular feeding, wellness checks, and maintaining clean habitats.
  • In conjunction with the marketing specialist, update the website and social media on a weekly basis and maintain the calendar of events.
  • Support grant goal implementation, data collection and reporting.
