About The Position

The Field Evaluation Engineer will conduct on-site engineering evaluations to assist regulatory authorities in determining product compliance, leading to installation approval. This role involves documentation review, visual and mechanical inspections, and generating engineering reports in accordance with relevant codes and standards. The position requires frequent travel for evaluations and offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics.
  • Four years of directly related work experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical vocabulary in the field evaluation business.
  • Expert knowledge of NEC, Building Codes, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with Electrical Test Equipment and conducting electrical tests on products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with frequent travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Hazardous Locations, SEMI, Renewable Energy.
  • Experience with Hazard Based Engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Independently determines project scope and develops a preliminary plan of investigation based on client input and product construction.
  • Initiates communication with clients and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to promote and explain services.
  • Responds to client concerns and resolves complex issues related to product evaluations.
  • Provides technical assistance to clients regarding product evaluations and plans review.
  • Represents UL at meetings and presents on code and certification topics.
  • Identifies areas of non-compliance with applicable standards.
  • Plans, conducts, and supervises major code and regulatory projects.
  • Serves as Project Handler and Reviewer of record as assigned.
  • Analyzes and reports on complex engineering issues from field evaluations.
  • Develops test requirements for unique products and creates special test methods and equipment.
  • May represent UL at industry functions and provide leadership on special projects.
