Interns and coops at United Piping Inc. (UPI) have a strong project engineering/management focus and can expect to work closely with a project manager on an active job. Interns and coops are exposed to all aspects of project planning and execution, including safety, quality control, bidding and estimating, project finance, the conduct of work, and post-project analysis conducted as a job comes to an end. In addition, they are exposed to industry-specific engineering questions and problems that arise during project preparation and on site. United Piping, Inc. is accepting applications for a Field Engineering Intern to work out of our Duluth, MN office. This internship is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2026.

  • Tracking project progress and reporting to the client.
  • Identifying design and/or constructability problems and working with the client to develop solutions.
  • Verifying work methods are within compliance and client specifications.
  • Procurement of materials.
  • Tracking schedule progress, delays, and changes.
  • Developing submittals for client approval.
  • Assisting project managers with cost tracking, scheduling, change orders, vendor contacts, etc.
  • Working with the project foreman and/or superintendent to provide excellent support to field crews.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • GED required
  • Active pursuit of an advanced degree (Associate's or Bachelor's degree) in an engineering or construction management program
  • Previous experience with project management or construction is a plus.
  • Compensation of $21/hour
  • Monthly housing stipend if relocation is required
