About The Position

Tutor Perini Civil-East is seeking a Field Engineer for their Manhattan Jail project site in New York City. Tutor Perini Corporation's family of civil construction companies has supported the development and maintenance of infrastructure across the nation for over a century, constructing and rehabilitating highways, bridges, tunnels, mass-transit systems, and water management and wastewater treatment facilities. Notable projects include The Purple Line (D Line) Extensions in Los Angeles, SR 99 Viaduct replacement tunnel in Seattle, East Side Access projects and the Hudson Yards Platform in New York, Central Subway Third Street Light Rail in San Francisco, and multiple airport expansions and bridge projects. The Field Engineer supports day-to-day construction operations on heavy civil projects by providing technical assistance, quality control oversight, surveying support, and field coordination. This role ensures work is performed safely, accurately, and efficiently while aligning with project plans, specifications, and schedule requirements, serving as a key link between the office engineering team and field crews.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (earthwork, structural concrete, utilities, bridges, or highways).
  • Proficiency with construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Working knowledge of construction management tools (Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Experience with surveying equipment (GPS, total stations) preferred.
  • Familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the superintendent with daily field operations, work planning, and sequencing.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and internal crews to maintain workflow and resolve conflicts.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and track daily production quantities to support cost control and progress reporting.
  • Perform construction layout using GPS and total station equipment.
  • Maintain accurate control points and verify field conditions prior to work execution.
  • Assist with as-built surveys and documentation.
  • Ensure work complies with project plans, specifications, tolerances, and industry standards.
  • Monitor testing requirements (soil compaction, concrete, asphalt, etc.) and coordinate with third-party labs.
  • Document and report quality discrepancies; support corrective action implementation.
  • Prepare and maintain daily reports, field logs, RFIs, submittals, and document control.
  • Assist in preparing work plans, method statements, and safety task analyses.
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings and redlines throughout construction.
  • Enforce company and project safety policies in the field.
  • Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety toolbox meetings.
  • Identify potential hazards and support corrective measures.
  • Track material deliveries, equipment usage, and labor allocation.
  • Assist with 3-week and short-interval schedule updates.
  • Help analyze productivity trends and support cost forecasting efforts.
