About The Position

Shimmick's Northwest Division is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to be based in Santa Cruz, CA and support our Santa Cruz Wastewater Treatment Facility Headworks Rehabilitation project. This project focuses on the City Headworks System and targets rehabilitation of several structures, process equipment, electrical and instrumentation, and ventilation of the Influent Pump Station (IPS). Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy civil construction with an understanding of construction methods, means, and materials.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria’s to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids.
  • Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used.
  • Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans.
  • Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests.
  • Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital).
  • Coordinating logistics and meetings for project managers.
  • Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports.
  • Assisting with community outreach duties as needed.
  • Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings.
  • Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by project managers.
  • Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets.
