About The Position

The Field Engineer is a critical member of our growing Engineering department at GRA Design Studio, responsible for performing detailed on-site investigations that support project feasibility, engineering decisions, and design development. This role focuses primarily on conducting MEP-focused engineering site surveys, capturing existing conditions, and identifying system-related constraints. The Field Engineer will also support due diligence analysis based on field observations and assist with production work as needed to ensure project continuity and team flexibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in field engineering, MEP surveys, construction, or similar technical roles.
  • Working knowledge of building MEP systems, existing facility evaluations, and construction processes.
  • Proficiency with field equipment, digital measuring tools, and drafting platforms (AutoCAD required; Revit a plus).
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail in fast-paced field environments.
  • Ability to work independently at job sites and collaborate effectively with engineering, architectural, and project management teams.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough on-site MEP field surveys, documenting existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and related building systems.
  • Capture accurate measurements, field notes, and photographic documentation to support engineering and architectural teams.
  • Identify system deficiencies, capacity considerations, code-related issues, and potential design or construction challenges.
  • Coordinate site access, interact with building personnel, and ensure all field data is collected safely and efficiently.
  • Perform due diligence evaluations informed by on-site observations, focusing on system conditions, risks, and feasibility.
  • Prepare clear and concise due diligence reports summarizing findings, system impacts, and recommendations.
  • Assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and standards related to MEP systems and existing building conditions.
  • Communicate findings to internal engineering and design teams to support scoping, planning, and decision-making.
  • Drafting, documentation updates, and production tasks in AutoCAD, Revit, and other software.
  • Incorporate field findings into engineering drawings, coordination sets, and project documents.
  • Support engineers and architects with redlines, revisions, and project coordination.
  • Provide flexibility across fieldwork, analysis, and production based on project workload and departmental needs.
