About The Position

The Field Engineer Site Lead serves as the senior on-site technical authority responsible for ensuring simulator systems remain mission-ready, operationally reliable, and compliant with program standards. This role provides expert-level hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance oversight, system integration support, and leadership to site technicians while serving as the primary interface between the contractor team, government customers, military instructors, and engineering stakeholders. This role ensures effective execution of maintenance activities, configuration control, documentation accuracy, cybersecurity compliance, and operational readiness across all supported training assets.

Requirements

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical issues within complex simulator systems.
  • Proficiency in leading a team of technicians, assigning tasks, guiding workflows, and ensuring maintenance actions are completed efficiently and in accordance with program requirements.
  • Ability to train, coach, and certify junior technicians on simulator systems, maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Proficiency in supporting system upgrades, new equipment integrations, engineering change implementations, and coordinating with engineering teams to validate technical solutions.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize readiness and minimize downtime during military training operations.
  • Proficiency in providing clear technical updates, status reports, and briefings to government customers, military instructors, management, and engineering staff.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electronic/electrical drawings, schematics, and logic diagrams; troubleshoot circuits to component level.
  • Ability to work with electronic test equipment used for fault isolation and correction.
  • Proficiency in repairing electronics, computers, networks, visual/display systems, I/O systems, electric motion bases, mechanical components and flight instrumentation.
  • Ability to follow maintenance manuals and work instructions for routine checks, pre‑operational, and post‑operational procedures.
  • Position requires High School diploma, Associate’s degree preferred. Four (4) years of related experience may substitute for absence of Technical College Degree or Associate’s Degree.
  • 8-12 years of experience in simulator maintenance or other related technical field required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a senior, lead, or advanced technician role, demonstrating the ability to guide or mentor others.
  • Formal technical electronics training (or equivalent military training) and prior simulator‑maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • DoD Personal Secret Security Clearance
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification(or DoD 8570.01‑IAT Level II or higher)or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • Must be eligible for DoD Personnel Security Clearance. Must be a US Person, as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)/Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA), eligible to receive and handle controlled classified & unclassified information.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site technical authority responsible for the operational readiness, reliability, and performance of AFSOC ACTS flight simulator systems.
  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of simulator technicians, assigning priorities and ensuring maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational tasks are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex discrepancies in electronic, electrical, computer, networking, hydraulic, visual, motion, and mechanical systems to the component level.
  • Install, integrate, replace, and service simulator subsystems including visual generation/display systems, computers, network infrastructure, I/O systems, electric motion platforms, circuit card assemblies, and associated hardware.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manuals, vendor documentation, configuration baselines, and program work instructions to maximize system availability.
  • Operate and maintain electronic test equipment used for system verification, fault isolation, and performance validation.
  • Prepare and certify training devices for daily operations, including conducting visual alignments, pre-flight, and post-flight procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems and ensure accurate functionality of corresponding simulation systems.
  • Oversee the installation, integration, testing, and validation of engineering changes, software updates, and hardware modifications in coordination with engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of maintenance documentation, discrepancy reports, and system status records to maintain traceability, auditability, and configuration control.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between contractor personnel, military instructors, government representatives, cybersecurity teams, and engineering staff.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements, safety protocols, configuration management standards, and proper handling of classified or sensitive materials.
  • Support logistics operations including parts ordering, inventory control, stocking, and supply accountability to sustain site operations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop technicians in troubleshooting methodologies, maintenance standards, safety practices, and simulator system knowledge.
  • Support training events and mission requirements, including extended hours, rotating shifts, or operational military environments as required.
  • Other duties as required.
