About The Position

We are seeking a Field Engineer, Mechanical to join our team supporting the Uranium Processing Facility! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) is a construction project at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee that is intended to modernize and replace aging facilities for uranium operations. Once complete, UPF will support the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, naval reactors, and defense nuclear nonproliferation while ensuring the long-term safety, security, and viability of enriched uranium capabilities in the United States. Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience or a High School Diploma and 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed
  • Must have an understanding of mechanical design codes and standards (like ASME).
  • Must be physical able to navigate construction sites, which may include extensive walking, climbing ladders, and working in small or confined spaces.
  • Must have a high degree of self-motivation and attention to detail.
  • Must have a strong mechanical background (such as a Construction Superintendent for Mechanical Installations or Mechanical Engineer).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support completion of UPF’s Mechanical-related field activities.
  • Manage construction project activities with expertise with mechanical systems.
  • Conduct field inspections and walkdowns to ensure mechanical installations meet UPF construction quality requirements and the most current design documents.
  • Identify mechanical installation restraints, provide practical solutions, and address issues discovered during QC inspections.
  • Provide technical assistance on-site, including resolving malfunctions and supporting testing and closure of work packages.
  • Work with the project team to plan and schedule mechanical work, and implement proper construction methods and procedures.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs of field-purchased materials and equipment and verify quantities in required systems.
  • Prepare reports on construction progress, track craft hours, and complete other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure the zero-accident philosophy and other safety requirements are followed by craft personnel.
  • Interpret blueprints, supervise subcontractors, conduct safety inspections, and resolve field issues to keep the project on time and budget.
