About The Position

Serve as a technical lead and primary point of contact for field engineering activities on construction-related projects involving pavements and materials. Coordinate with clients and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met. Oversee quality control (QC) reviews, adherence to technical specifications, and implementation of advanced testing procedures. Provide guidance and training to technicians and junior engineers. Perform specialized pavement testing and advanced evaluations using state-of-the-art equipment. Ensure compliance with company standards and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or other acceptable engineering disciplines.
  • 1-3 years of related experience; internship or prior field experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain professional registration (PE or PG) in the future.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead field engineer for assigned projects, ensuring technical accuracy and timely completion.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients for field-related activities, addressing questions, resolving issues, and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Coordinate field teams and allocate resources to meet project objectives efficiently.
  • Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET QA and Health & Safety Policies, to promote the safety of employees, clients and the public.
  • Maintain expected levels of chargeable productivity while completing assigned projects on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with client expectations.
  • Travel frequently within the regional area, with out-of-town travel of up to 50% of the time, as business needs require.
  • Properly use, maintain, and care for company instruments, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures and technologies relevant to assigned field(s).
  • Participate in at least one professional organization and continue progress toward professional registration.
  • Support company marketing efforts and develop and maintain business relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and company goals.
  • Perform and review inspection, observation, and testing services for compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Conduct QC reviews of field data, reports, and deliverables prior to client submission.
  • Ensure adherence to technical specifications, safety protocols, and company QA/QC policies.
  • Perform asphalt mix design testing in accordance with USACE specifications and AI MS-2 methodology.
  • Perform specialized pavement and geotechnical testing, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Geoprobe soil borings, and pavement coring.
  • Execute advanced materials testing and classification on soil, aggregate, asphalt, bedrock, and related materials.
  • Interpret complex test results and provide technical recommendations to clients and project teams.
  • Prepare detailed reports, evaluations, and analyses, including professional opinions, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation in accordance with AET QA procedures and requirements.
  • Lead training initiatives for technicians and junior engineers on testing procedures, safety practices, and technical standards.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching to support skill development and enhance team and performance.
  • Review project plans and specifications, and assist in preparing project-specific proposals.
  • Support the development and implementation of QA/QC policies and procedures across the division.
