About The Position

Field Diesel Mechanic position available based out of our Fort Collins location to serve the greater part of Northern Colorado and Wyoming. This position is responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems, repairing and rebuilding agricultural/construction equipment primarily in the field at job sites and customer locations. The Field Diesel Mechanic will maintain diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records. This position requires strong independent diagnostic abilities and the capability to perform repairs with minimal supervision in field environments. Each employee is responsible and accountable for conducting their job tasks in a safe, healthy, and environmentally prudent manner. The mechanic must have their own hand tools.

Requirements

  • Must possess valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Select’s insurance guidelines.
  • High School Diploma/GED required, Diesel Mechanic Certification preferred
  • Heavy Equipment mechanic experience.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot electrical, mechanical, diesel engine problems, as well as hydraulic, and pump
  • Experience working on tractors.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Ability to understand necessary safety procedures and precautions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer/lap top.
  • Intermediate knowledge of hand tools/power tools.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations for repair.
  • Must be able to use battery and charging system test equipment.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug screenings, background check, road test, and driving record review.

Nice To Haves

  • Diesel engine repair: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Hydraulics: 3 years (Preferred)
  • CDL (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of the agricultural/construction industry, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to field locations to diagnose, repair, and service agricultural and construction equipment.
  • Independently diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues.
  • Perform on-site repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of equipment in the field.
  • Review daily assigned work orders and coordinate repairs based on operational needs.
  • Correct identified deficiencies and complete repairs efficiently and accurately.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services on field equipment.
  • Schedule and coordinate major repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and repair records.
  • Communicate clearly with management regarding equipment condition, repair status, and parts requirements.
  • Operate service trucks and maintain proper inventory of commonly used repair parts and tools.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make repair decisions independently in field conditions.
