About The Position

Work Outside, Work with Youth, Make a Positive Impact on your Community! Tree Trust's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is a great experience to build your resume in leadership, youth work, and the green industry as you make a difference in the lives of young people and improve your community! This position is responsible for the project management and supervision of 3-4 crew leaders. Each crew leader will supervise a crew of 8 youth people (age 14-21) with barriers to employment. This includes selecting appropriate construction methods and strategies; managing job sites, materials, and equipment; coaching and advising crew leaders; training and evaluating crew leaders and crew members; documentation; and performance of direct labor. You will help your crew members learn landscaping and landscape construction skills, develop resilience, work as a team, enjoy the summer sun, make new friends, and build lasting memories. To qualify, you will: Have basic knowledge of and experience with landscape construction techniques. Be able to use sound judgement and demonstrate adaptability under changing conditions. Have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to effectively communicate with vendors, project partners, youth, parents, and community members. Be able to work independently and unsupervised, as well as in a team. Be at least 19, have a valid driver’s license, have three years driving experience after receiving your license, and have a clear driving record in order to meet the insurance requirements for driving a Tree Trust vehicle. Be able and willing to travel daily within the metro area in a Tree Trust vehicle provided. Your assigned worksite will be within Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington County. Be able and willing to transport up to 8 participants between pickup locations in a company vehicle. Be able to pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check. Be available June 1st - August 14, 2026. Be able and willing to work Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day. There are multiple openings for this role that pay $22.00 per hour. Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in coordinating and supervising staff.
  • Experience working with and positively motivating disadvantaged youth of diverse backgrounds.
  • One year of college education in a related field (including but not limited to, construction management, education, special education, social work, youth development, psychology, environmental sciences, or landscape related) or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience working with or supervising youth/young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, guidance, and motivation to crew leaders and their crews.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of assigned projects.
  • Ensure projects are progressing on schedule and raise questions and concerns to the Field Operations Manager.
  • Set and maintain clear expectations for work attendance, appearance, language, and behavior among both crew leaders and youth.
  • Support the growth of a safe and positive learning environment for crews on project sites.
  • In conjunction with the Employment Coaches and Tree Trust administrative staff, assist with behavior management and conflict resolution.
  • Be a safety leader by ensuring work site safety and enforcing all Tree Trust safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide basic First Aid as needed, report all work injuries following Tree Trust policy and procedure.
  • Provide work direction to Crew Leaders and Crew Members.
  • Coordinate and supervise the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment.
  • Ensure Crew Leaders are properly documenting personnel and project information.
  • Serve as a role model by setting a positive example and representing Tree Trust to the general public and project partners.
  • Arrange for and transport all materials and equipment needed to complete the projects.
  • Communicate crew changes and needs to Program Manager and Field Operations Manager.
  • Attend weekly staff coordination meetings.
