About The Position

Primarily for contract work, this position provides the on-site role of job oversight, construction inspection, quality and safety control, material coordination, contractor coordination, and communication – all in alignment with the project manager. This is the lead on-site role for a project.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission and distribution line work or related construction work.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to work successfully with multiple internal and external parties.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities and multiple projects.
  • Strong and broad knowledge of the Versant Power system preferred.
  • Ability to read one-line diagrams.
  • Thorough knowledge of GIS, Atlas, EWP System and skills to access and work within the system from both office and field settings.
  • Thorough knowledge of Versant Power operating and safety procedures, policies, and standards; and the ability to effectively explain these to others.
  • Thorough knowledge of Versant Safety Manual and understanding of the Versant Contractor Safety Program.
  • Experience and proven success with oversight of contractors preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution construction standards and ability to inspect contractor work for compliance with quality control requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of MDOT traffic safety control standards.
  • Position requires sitting, walking, driving, and working on uneven terrain, climbing bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling.
  • Position requires exposure to the elements in extreme heat, cold and inclement weather.
  • Position requires both spoken and written interaction with Versant Power employees, contractors, and the public and therefore requires good communication skills.
  • Position may be stressful due to due tight schedules and deadlines.
  • Requires extended use of electronic devices.
  • Maine Motor Vehicle Operators license required.
  • Will require irregular and extra hours of work.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of the construction work and fulfills field project support and coordination role. Monitors compliance with Versant Power construction standards, project specifications and construction quality.
  • Daily point of contact for the contractor and coordination with the project manager.
  • Assures that proper switching and tagging is in place daily. Assures that coordination and communication of tagging status has occurred between System Operations, the contractor(s), Line Operations as needed, environmental inspectors, and project management. If certified, may perform switching and tagging duties.
  • Assures materials are available and meet the specifications and standards of the project. Coordinates material selection and changes with engineers, planners, and project managers. Oversees the return of any unused stock to inventory.
  • Facilitates system changes, whether temporary or permanent, with System Operations, Engineering, Line Operations, and PST.
  • Participates in daily risk assessments.
  • Monitors safety performance and compliance with safety rules and policies. This position has the responsibility, authority, and obligation to immediately address any non-compliance, and shut a job down for any significant compliance problems. Has further responsibility to communicate any compliance issues to the project manager and Safety Department.
  • Monitors compliance with environmental requirements, and in some cases supports environmental inspections. Reports environmental concerns to Environmental Services department.
  • Serves as primary contact and Company representative in the event of public or neighbor visitation or interference on the jobsite. Assures public safety measures are followed, including traffic management plans.
  • Supports communication, notification and first response in the event of emergencies.
  • Assists with weekly submittals of contractor risk assessments and crew-equipment lists.
  • In the event of an incident, participates in root cause analyses and corrective action plans.
  • Assures that changes made during construction are communicated and captured in final “redline” as-built plans and submitted for project closure.
  • May be called upon to lead or present at contractor briefings and trainings.
  • Prepares and submits weekly project reports as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Designated assignments associated with Storm/System Restoration.
  • If designated to conduct switching and tagging, must maintain qualification through training and testing. Able to properly set up switching plans and participate in switching order reviews.
