About The Position

Bechtel is seeking a Field Buyer for the Thacker Pass Project, which is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. The role involves managing purchase orders from start to finish, including preparing bidder lists, sending bid requests, reviewing proposals, negotiating terms, and ensuring suppliers meet project requirements. The project aims to produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the U.S., contributing significantly to the transition to cleaner energy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of procurement processes and commercial terms.
• Ability to negotiate and manage supplier performance.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Familiarity with purchase order administration and dispute resolution.
• Proficiency in procurement systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar for purchase order creation, tracking, and reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills for cost analysis, bid comparison, and reporting; Word and Outlook for documentation and communication.
• Understanding of shipping terms, customs documentation, and freight coordination.

Responsibilities

• Work with Engineering to ensure that correct material is requested.
• Create bid packages, send requests, and manage bidder questions.
• Review bids and recommend awards.
• Issue and manage purchase orders within your authority.
• Communicate with suppliers to clarify requirements and monitor performance.
• Handle changes to purchase orders and get necessary approvals.
• Close Field Purchase order cycle.
