About The Position

As a key member of the Albireo Energy team, the Field Automation Engineer is responsible for the on-site engineering, integration, and commissioning of Building Automation Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for mission-critical data center construction and complex commercial projects. This role provides hands-on technical leadership in the field, supporting systems from design validation through installation, testing, turnover, and customer acceptance. On-Site Engineering & System Implementation Perform field engineering for BMS and EPMS systems on data center construction projects, commercial office buildings, and regulated facilities. Conduct site surveys, constructability reviews, and field assessments to validate design intent and system requirements. Support and lead system installation, startup, commissioning, and testing activities. Serve as the primary on-site technical resource for automation and controls scope. Design, Controls & System Integration Support and lead the design and implementation of BMS and EPMS systems in coordination with architects, engineers, and stakeholders. Configure, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems (Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens typical). Develop, configure, and maintain system databases, tags, alarms, trends, and graphics within BMS and EPMS platforms. Integrate HVAC plant systems and electrical infrastructure including UPS, switchgear, generators, STS, and power metering. Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, cybersecurity requirements, and project-specific sequences of operation. Utilize and troubleshoot BACnet, Modbus, and TCP/IP-based networks. Technical Support & Troubleshooting Provide technical leadership and hands-on support to installation, commissioning, and service teams. Troubleshoot software, hardware, controls logic, communications, and network-related issues. Identify field discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with engineering and project teams. Commissioning, Testing & Validation Execute and support point-to-point checkout, FAT/SAT, and site acceptance testing. Participate in Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and Level 3–5 commissioning activities. Validate system functionality includes alarms, trends, sequences, graphics, and failover conditions. Support owner training, system demonstrations, and final system acceptance. Project Coordination & Management Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, commissioning agents, and client stakeholders. Support project planning, scheduling, and execution for complex, multi-system automation projects. Assist with equipment selection, procurement coordination, and material planning. Attend project meetings and provide field-driven input to schedule, risk, and quality discussions. Documentation & Closeout Review and markup mechanical and electrical drawings, control narratives, and specifications. Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation including: As-built drawings Point-to-point wiring diagrams Control panel layouts Valve and damper schedules Bills of material Generate and manage RFIs to clarify requirements and resolve design conflicts. Support O&M manuals, turnover packages, and closeout documentation. Customer Support & Continuous Improvement Provide responsive technical support to customers and address issues in a timely, professional manner. Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. Contributes to the continuous improvement of Albireo engineering standards, tools, and field execution processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in BMS, EPMS, controls, or industrial automation.
  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC controls, electrical power monitoring, and system integration.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC-based automation and enterprise BMS/EPMS platforms.
  • Proven experience supporting data center construction or mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-project field environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with any PLC Vendors, Rockwell / Ignition preferred.
  • Exposure to IST, advanced commissioning, and live data center cutovers.
  • Working knowledge of networking infrastructure (VLANs, switches, fiber/copper).
  • Experience with energy-efficient control strategies and advanced operational processes.
