About The Position

The Field Auditor position within the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is responsible for conducting external audit examinations of Colorado businesses to ensure compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) statutes and regulations. This role involves reviewing employer records, verifying premium assessments, and investigating fraudulent claims, all while maintaining a commitment to accountability and customer service. The position offers remote and hybrid work options, requiring occasional travel to employer locations for audits.

Requirements

  • Six years of relevant experience in general accounting, auditing, or a related field.
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA or CIA certificate can substitute for five years of experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to perform independent research using various websites and statutes.
  • Customer service oriented with the ability to work with a diverse population.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish (read, write, speak) preferred.
  • Professional auditing and/or accounting experience.
  • Previous experience in Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation, or Compliance Investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform external fact-finding audit examinations on Colorado business books and records based on accepted auditing standards.
  • Ensure compliance with FAMLI statutes by obtaining facts and data through systematic examination of employer records.
  • Review employer records to ensure premiums are properly calculated and investigate fraudulent claims for benefits.
  • Coordinate with employers and implement job duties independently from direct supervision.
  • Utilize computers and software such as Microsoft Word and Windows operating systems in daily tasks.
