The Field Applications Engineer is a pivotal role within EFJohnson Technologies, a subsidiary of JVCKENWOOD Corporation, which specializes in P25 communications solutions for first responders and various organizations. This position is primarily responsible for testing, evaluating, verifying, and reporting on compliance with product definitions, specifications, and operational features of both vendor and factory products. The engineer will also be tasked with writing technical documentation that serves various departments including Engineering, Product Planning, Technical Support, and the Tuning Department. In addition to these responsibilities, the role involves assisting in laboratory and field problem investigations, as well as conducting solution testing and validation. The Field Applications Engineer will provide specialized support to JVCKENWOOD USA technical staff, sales channels, and end-users, extending beyond routine technical support. This position requires a significant amount of travel, which can vary based on project needs. Located in Irving, TX, the Field Applications Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will be an integral part of the communications support team. The role necessitates a presence in the office most days, ensuring close collaboration with team members and stakeholders. The essential duties of this position include breadboarding, prototyping, modifying, cabling, testing, and documenting standard or special interfaces. The engineer will also be responsible for sourcing and purchasing equipment, supplies, and parts necessary for engineering tasks. Writing instruction sheets, manuals, and application notes, as well as tuning and service procedures, are also key components of the job. Furthermore, the engineer will support and train various stakeholders including product managers, technical support staff, and end-users, while evaluating competitive products for planning and design purposes, particularly in Land Mobile projects with occasional involvement in amateur radio projects.
