The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader dedicated to operational efficiency and strict safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial yard, recycling facility, warehouse, or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and hazard recognition. OSHA 10 or 30 certification is highly preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, loaders, balers). Active forklift certification is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively train crews, document issues, and coordinate with vendors. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, Excel, email) for inventory tracking and reporting.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to manage process improvements and troubleshoot workflow bottlenecks.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb frequently throughout the shift in a large, active yard environment.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work safely in an outdoor/semi-outdoor industrial environment that is subject to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and elevated noise levels.
  • Capable of working long shifts, standing for extended periods, and walking long distances across uneven terrain.
  • Requires visual acuity to perform quality checks on materials, identify hazards, and ensure equipment is operating safely.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Oversight: Maintain overall Fiber Yard safety. Lead crew Toolbox Talks and coordinate Safety Standdowns as required.
  • Incident Reporting: Manage the "See/Say/Do" reporting system to document and address near misses promptly.
  • Standard Procedures: Ensure strict compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, while continuously establishing and enforcing safety best practices.
  • Counts & Records: Perform accurate material and pallet inventory counts, and execute manual data entry into tracking spreadsheets.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop "Pull & Stack" plans and effectively manage wall bale turnover.
  • Quality Control: Conduct routine material quality checks, manage "Bale Breaks," and document "prohibitive" or material rejections (including taking photos and sending email notifications).
  • BOLO List: Maintain and communicate an active "Be On the Lookout" (BOLO) list to track specific material issues.
  • Team Leadership: Provide general management for yard employees and crews, including conducting New Hire Orientations.
  • Scheduling: Manage the vacation coverage board, coordinate on-call communication, and review/approve employee overtime forms.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously identify and implement workflow improvements for the yard, dock, and trailer flow.
  • Equipment Upkeep: Monitor fluids, grease, wearable items, and spare parts. Ensure all daily/weekly equipment checklists are properly documented.
  • Service Coordination: Schedule Preventive Maintenance (PMs) and serve as the primary point of contact for vendor service technicians (e.g., Burwell, WPI, Herc).
  • Housekeeping: Manage weekly cleanliness to-do lists and oversee assigned staff (e.g., Carlos & Rudy) to ensure the proper maintenance of bathrooms, break rooms, and office spaces.
  • Procurement: Maintain an active shopping list and manage the procurement of office, cleaning, and daily employee supplies.
