About The Position

The Fiber Splicing Technician has an important role in the installation and maintenance of our fiber optic networks, ensuring high-quality connections that facilitate efficient data transmission. This position involves working with various types of fiber optic cables, performing splicing, testing, and troubleshooting to maintain optimal network performance. The technician will be responsible for interpreting technical specifications and schematics to execute splicing tasks accurately. Additionally, they will collaborate with other team members to ensure timely project completion while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in fiber color coding (standard 12-color system).
  • Skilled in using and maintaining optical splicing and test equipment (OTDR, OLTS, VFL, OPM, OPI/Traffic Identifier).
  • Ability to adapt to changing project needs and technical requirements.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with FTTH and fiber optic installation.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in excavation & earth-moving equipment operation (preferred).
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber optic installation and maintenance, including FTTH and loose tube fiber (small and large count).
  • Load and secure materials or equipment for transport from the show-up yard to job sites.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, clean, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal safety and performance.
  • Operate hydraulic aerial lifts and truck-mounted ladders.
  • Set up a safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Work in heights and confined spaces as required.
  • Keep detailed records of work activity and maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Must be available for shift work and on-call rotations.
  • Follow blueprints, wire diagrams, and splice charts for fiber installation.
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, OSHA, and related state and local codes.
  • Assist with troubleshooting various fiber architectures, including DWDM and CWDM mux/splitters.
  • Collaborate with CO/NOC technicians for hot cuts and maintenance windows.
  • Lead and direct workflow to maintain high-quality results.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
