About The Position

The Fiber Splicer/Apprentice position at Niels Fugal Sons involves working with fiber optic and copper cables in both indoor and outdoor settings. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Previous experience splicing fiber optic and/or copper cable.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Knowledge of telecommunications network structure.
• Ability to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams.

Nice To Haves

• Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable.
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.
• Conduct basic daily maintenance of the provided vehicle, including checking fluids and organizing the vehicle.
• Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
• Safely operate and use a bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed, including climbing poles.
• Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicers when necessary.
• Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, and track work hours.
• Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
• Frequently work independently and perform other splicing-related duties as assigned.
