About The Position

The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for troubleshooting network issues, performing splicing and testing operations, and ensuring network integrity on live telecommunications infrastructure. This position requires technical expertise in fiber optic systems, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work independently during overnight maintenance periods.This role supports critical maintenance operations on active fiber optic networks during scheduled maintenance windows. The position requires night shift availability as maintenance activities are performed during off-peak hours to minimize service disruption.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working alone during night maintenance windows
  • Willing to work nights for 6+ months
  • Can train and oversee other technicians
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills
  • Can manage multiple sites/crews during maintenance windows
  • Can complete 288ct re-entry ribbon butt splice in under 4 hours
  • Night shift availability for minimum 6-12 months (Mandatory)
  • Ability to distinguish fiber colors (Mandatory)
  • Can lift/carry 50 lbs (Mandatory)
  • Pass background check and drug screening (Mandatory)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (Mandatory)
  • OSHA 10 certification (Mandatory)
  • 2+ years hands-on fiber splicing (aerial/UG) (Level II/III Technicians)
  • Can complete 144ct loose tube re-entry, ribbonizing, butt splice in under 4 hours (Level II/III Technicians)
  • Can troubleshoot distributed split networks independently (Level II/III Technicians)
  • OSHA 10 certified (Level II/III Technicians)
  • 5+ years fiber splicing with demonstrated leadership (Senior Lead)

  • Lineman cross-trained
  • Experience with live network maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair cable plant failures on live networks
  • OTDR testing to identify faults and signal loss
  • End-of-line network testing for balanced signal transmission
  • Resolve distributed split network issues
  • Splice color-for-color and off-color fibers in complex enclosures
  • Handle multiple cables in single enclosures
  • Perform 144ct and 288ct re-entries, ribbonizing, butt splicing
  • Build and populate fiber cases and enclosures
  • Case swaps and rehab gel-filled cases
  • Jumping trays and managing tie point connections
  • Provide field notes and proposals for client review
  • Redline maps and maintain accurate documentation
  • Read prints, splice matrices, and fiber route maps
  • Customer interaction during maintenance windows
  • Pull cable through existing duct, conduit (manual, blown, mechanical)
  • Aerial and underground splicing and activation
  • Work in confined spaces, climb poles and ladders
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
