The Fiber Splicer position at Hotwire Communications involves the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables, troubleshooting network issues, and maintaining transmission and reception equipment for FTTH networks. The role requires hands-on experience with fiber splicing and testing equipment, as well as collaboration with engineering teams to ensure network performance and compliance with company standards.

  • Prep and splice fiber optic cables.
  • Locate problem areas and perform repairs as needed.
  • Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH network.
  • Install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for service issues.
  • Initiate test and turn-up procedures with System Engineers in accordance with company compliance standards.
  • Collect and interpret engineering documentation, including schematics and performance OTDR reports.
  • Support field maintenance teams, including IT and regional engineering teams.
  • Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH.
  • Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd party providers.
  • Work within the engineering team to ensure all connections meet required specifications.
  • Participate in on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Active and clean, non-restrictive, state issued driver's license in the state where hired.
  • At least 3 years hands-on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment & restoration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using fusion splicing machine.
  • Understanding of broadband communication theories and concepts, including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks.
  • Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDRs and optical power meters as required.
  • SCTE certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work days, weekends, evenings, and holidays and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
