About The Position
The Fiber Splicer position at UAM Fiber Construction involves performing skilled tasks in accordance with standard industry practices related to the construction, maintenance, and operation of telecommunications systems. The role requires the use of specialized equipment in a fast-paced outdoor work environment. The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining all fiber optic systems in various settings, including businesses, homes, schools, and other organizations, ensuring optimal performance of these systems. Key duties include measuring the signal strength of television, telephone, and internet connections to verify adequate performance, creating sensors, and conducting inspections to identify any defects in the fiber optic systems. The Fiber Splicer will splice fiber optic cables, including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables, and construct proper splice cases, which involve grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing. Additionally, the role requires preparing and maintaining splicing records, schematics, and diagrams, as well as conducting regular inspections to locate and repair any defects. The position demands problem-solving skills to determine solutions for any issues affecting the performance of fiber optic systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and will be required to travel frequently, including overnight trips. The work environment is often loud, and the role involves physical demands such as lifting, bending, and climbing. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
