About The Position

The Fiber Splicer Lead oversees and performs advanced fiber splicing, testing, installation, and repair work for aerial, underground, and buried systems. This position serves as the senior field authority and is responsible for coordinating daily workflow, directing splicing and aerial crews, managing scheduling, ensuring project completion, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Extensive fiber splicing experience; successful completion of splicing test required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or prior team lead responsibility in field operations.
  • Strong ability to read engineering plans and technical specifications.
  • Physically able to lift up to 100 lbs., climb poles and ladders, work aloft, and work in confined spaces or all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record; ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
  • Must meet federal and state requirements for operation of company vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule day to day work for the splicing team, aerial team, and other field technicians.
  • Coordinate workforce allocation to ensure proper coverage for all planned work, emergency issues, and project demands.
  • Assign projects to splicers and aerial crews, ensuring tasks are clearly communicated and completed on time.
  • Schedule all fiber tests, turnups, inspections, OTDR testing, and related deliverables.
  • Oversee execution of daily and weekly work plans, providing hands on guidance as needed.
  • Monitor progress in the field, confirm task completion, and update leadership on job status
  • Serve as the onsite technical lead, assisting with escalations and complex repair/restoration efforts
  • Perform advanced splicing, testing, rearranging, and terminating fiber and copper cables.
  • Validate, interpret, and field verify engineering prints, splicing diagrams, and vendor specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair defects using optical, electrical, and mechanical testing equipment.
  • Direct and participate in outage restoration, coordinating resources and splicing plans.
  • Operate aerial lifts, ladders, hydraulic equipment, and perform light digging as needed.
  • Install, repair, and maintain inside plant equipment including routers, ONTs, video devices, and related hardware.
  • Conduct safety assessments and ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and company standards.
  • Interact with customers onsite regarding work being performed, service impacts, and restoration updates.
  • Promote company services when appropriate.
  • Complete all required project documentation, time sheets, DOT logs, test results, and administrative tasks.
  • Identify database discrepancies and provide corrected information to the appropriate department.
