About The Position

As an Engineering Design Consultant at Fibersmith, you’ll play a vital role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing fiber and wireless networks. You’ll work with a collaborative team to collect and analyze data, generate detailed project reports, and ensure that our network designs consistently meet the highest standards. Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and related applications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Accuracy & Attention to Detail: You consistently deliver precise work and spot errors that others might miss.
  • Technical Proficiency: You are comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Planner, etc.) and eager to learn new software tools (GIS, CAD, Arc, SQL, etc.).
  • Adaptability & Multitasking: You can easily switch between tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Initiative & Drive: You bring energy and a can-do attitude to your work, ready to grow with the company.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience or strong interest in GIS.
  • Familiarity with CAD, Arc, or SQL.
  • Understanding of Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Notices, or similar documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with both customers and vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience balancing budgets and conducting cost analysis.
  • A background or coursework in engineering, mapping, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new fiber and wireless construction designs.
  • Refine existing designs to balance cost-effectiveness and performance.
  • Enter and update features, data, and connections in GIS software.
  • Prepare, generate, and update reports on project status and plant records.
  • Maintain files, designs, and drawings in Fibersmith’s document management system.
  • Adhere to all Fibersmith standards, as outlined in employee training.
  • Assist with Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Notices, or similar documentation.
  • Generate field maps for use during staking and inspection.
  • Gather data on points of interest—such as poles, foreign utilities, or other infrastructure—to inform design.
  • Travel up to 10–15% for site visits, industry events, and more.
  • Work within a team environment, collaborating with consultants and senior consultants.
  • Remain adaptable to shifting priorities and requirements.
  • Keep up with the latest industry trends, products, and technologies.
  • Provide ideas for process improvements and network enhancements.
  • Other duties as required to support project success.
