About The Position

The Fiber Optic Splicing Technician is committed to providing the highest quality service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve by performing required splicing, including but not limited to voice, data, and video services.

Requirements

  • Able to operate PC and various software applications.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to communication with associates and customers in a professional manner.
  • Able to work flexible schedule, including Saturdays, if required.
  • Ability to get along with others.
  • Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications, in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, and vendors that provide products or services.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to comply with CPNI regulations and procedures
  • Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches and the ability to function effectively as a team player
  • Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Office suite) and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 100 lbs, climb poles/ladders, and be able to distinguish wires by color.
  • Ability to perform on-call duties, when scheduled.
  • Ability to work in cramped work spaces.
  • Ability to work in all types of terrain and hazards (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.), all types of environments (construction sites, highways, industrial, private property, etc.), and all types of weather conditions.
  • At a minimum, the Fiber Optic Splicer Technician must have high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 3-years telecommunications, utility construction, and/or underground utilities experience and must possess a valid driers' license.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education in Fiber Optic splicing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required splicing in support of all company services as required (i.e. Voice, Video & Data)
  • Assist with Fiber Plant troubleshooting as required for all company services (i.e. Voice, Video & Data)
  • Assist with Maintaining accurate digital fiber plant records including entry into the MAPCOM M4 system
  • Assist with providing fiber plant records to the Broadband Supervisor for validation of services used on the fiber plant prior to maintenance on active fiber
  • Assist scheduling of active fiber plant maintenance with the Broadband Supervisor to ensure the Network team has adequate time for maintenance window notifications both internally and externally
  • Assist with compiling and updating all required paperwork. (ie Maps, Printouts, Customer Master Records, Service Orders, Fiber Optic Records, etc.)
  • Assist with Fiber Plant maintenance as needed, following company policies and procedures.
  • Test Fiber Plant cabling according to established industry guidelines and procedures to ensure completion of Fiber Plant maintenance projects.
  • Perform copper and fiber optic splicing as required.
  • Perform special circuit installation and troubleshooting as required.  Work with outside plant coordinator and Front Office staff on any special circuit service order or scheduling issues.
  • Locate cable as required.
  • Repair buried facilities as required.
  • Work with customers, other associates and other Fiber Plant Technicians to resolve customer concerns or issues.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
