About The Position

VEA Connect is actively seeking a hands-on Fiber Optic Field Supervisor with extensive experience in backhaul, long-haul, and FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) projects. The ideal candidate has deep product knowledge and proven expertise in high-count fiber cable splicing — including 288ct, 864ct, single and ribbon fiber. This position combines field leadership and technical proficiency, overseeing the installation, splicing, and validation of complex fiber networks. The role requires working alongside crews to perform advanced splicing, diagnostics, and system validation (OTDR, OLTS, IOLM), including detailed reporting and documentation. The right candidate will bring technical excellence, safety focus, and strong mentoring skills, ensuring every project meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on fiber optic splicing and testing experience.
  • Proven experience leading or supervising fiber crews in backhaul, long-haul, or FTTH environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of single-mode, ribbon, and high-count fiber (288ct–864ct) construction.
  • Strong proficiency with OTDR, OLTS, and IOLM test equipment and related software.
  • Excellent understanding of fiber documentation, color codes, and mapping systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Industry and safety certifications (OSHA, CPR/First Aid, FOA, ETA, BICSI) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside and Supervise fiber crews in the field on large-scale backhaul, long-haul, and FTTH builds.
  • Perform and oversee high-count fiber cable splicing (288ct, 864ct, single and ribbon fiber).
  • Conduct OTDR, OLTS, and IOLM testing for diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system validation.
  • Prepare and review detailed test reports, documentation, and as-builts (using EXFO FastReporter or similar tools).
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and client specifications.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate field technicians to maintain consistent performance and craftsmanship.
  • Coordinate daily operations, materials, schedules, and resource allocation for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure successful delivery.
