About The Position

The Fiber Optic Construction Inspector is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of fiber optic installation and construction activities. This role involves on‑site inspections, coordination with contractors, verification of construction standards, and documentation of project progress. The inspector ensures that all work meets industry specifications, local regulations, and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 2+ years of related work experience in fiber optic, telecommunications, or utility inspection roles.
  • Demonstrable ability to read blueprints and wire diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic cable types, installation techniques, splice enclosures, handholes, conduit systems, and pole/aerial standards.
  • Good understanding of PPE, first aid, and trench safety.
  • Travel to the construction sites as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol and background check requirements.
  • Highly flexible in daily duties and level of responsibility.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must enjoy working in a fast paced, high-growth, and rapidly changing work environment.

  • OSHA 10/30 and CPR certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily fiber optic construction activities, including trenching, aerial installation, duct placement, splicing, testing, and restoration.
  • Verify that construction work follows approved engineering drawings, specifications, and permitting requirements.
  • Inspect underground and aerial pathways to ensure proper depth, separation, support, and protective measures.
  • Assess contractor workmanship for compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Inspect fiber optic cable installation, labeling, slack storage, handholes, splice closures, and cabinets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review fiber test results (OTDR, power meter/light source) and validate compliance with project acceptance criteria.
  • Identify discrepancies or deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with construction crews.
  • Maintain detailed inspection logs and quality documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, local utility, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct on‑site safety audits and monitor use of PPE, traffic control, aerial lift operations, and trenching/excavation practices.
  • Report safety violations and participate in incident reviews when needed.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site liaison between engineering teams, contractors, field supervisors, and project managers.
  • Attend construction meetings and provide updates on project status, issues, and inspection results.
  • Resolve field issues collaboratively and escalate concerns when project timelines or quality standards are at risk.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, photo documentation, redlines, and as‑built updates.
  • Track material quantities, restoration activities, and project milestones.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, locates, and test documentation for project closeout.
  • All other tasks as assigned by management.
