About The Position

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Fiber Optic and Electronics Technology Field Technician to join our team in Herndon, VA ! In this role you will support multiple clients through maintenance and installation of many different types of technologies along the roadside.

Requirements

  • High School degree or GED required; ASEE or BSEE (or related field) preferred and typically 3+ years progressive telecommunications installation and testing experience.
  • Fiber Optic Installer Certification Required.
  • Fiber Optic Troubleshooting experience Required.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. for short distances.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with possible rotational on-call as needed.
  • Driver’s license required. (Must be able to meet our insurance requirements.)
  • Must be able to pass Parsons and client background check and drug screening.
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to follow directions to complete various job tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of experience in a relevant telecom installation role is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Virginia Workzone Safety certification is a plus.
  • Experience working with Transportation Technology systems is preferred but will provide training.
  • Networking experience is a plus
  • Open to traveling within the state and occasionally into other states.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting existing outdoor plant Fiber Optic systems spanning many miles.
  • Testing, Splicing and Installing outdoor Fiber Optic cable.
  • Install, wire, integrate, maintain and program the following – Poles, Cabinets, CCTV Cameras, Digital Message Signs, Field Switches, Lowering Devices, and all related hardware.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various electronics and IT-related issues in the field.
  • Follow the safety rules and regulations of the Company, Client & OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to understand installation manuals for all various types of equipment (CCTV, VDS, Field Switches, Encoders, Decoders, DMS)
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job, ability to operate equipment.
  • Ability to properly hear and understand or interpret verbal job site instructions and properly perform such instructions in English.
