About the position

The Extruder Operator, Fiber is responsible for setting up, operating, and performing complex maintenance on specialized production and non-production equipment without supervision. This role may involve instructing or directing the work of others and requires keeping necessary records while investigating rejects and failure patterns. The operator works from sketches, diagrams, drawings, and written or verbal instructions to maintain the integrity of processes and ensure final product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates specialized production equipment without supervision.
  • Performs complex maintenance on production and non-production equipment.
  • Instructs and directs the work of others as needed.
  • Keeps necessary records and investigates rejects and failure patterns.
  • Works from sketches, diagrams, drawings, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Maintains the integrity of processes and final product quality.
  • Performs visual appraisal, sampling, and product testing as required.
  • Responds to system, process, or material problems appropriately.
  • Plans and coordinates crew activities effectively.
  • Demonstrates understanding of equipment function and controls.
  • Maintains cleanliness in the work area consistently.
  • Uses required computer and document resources effectively.
  • Organizes and directs routine line operations.
  • Understands appropriate material disposition, including recycling.
  • Performs product changeover and startup tasks as required.
  • Generates and maintains records, reports, logs, and files.
  • Understands job hazards and demonstrates safe behaviors.
  • Initiates and maintains SPC tools required for the position.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating specialized production equipment.
  • Ability to perform complex maintenance tasks on production equipment.
  • Strong understanding of equipment functions and controls.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and logs.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with SPC tools and processes.
